Reminder cards: Make sure that everybody will upload their pictures for you

Olapic has taken the weight of reminding your guest to share their pictures of your celebration off your shoulders. We do it automatically, sending your guests emails when you are busy with more important things, like rehearsals… or your honeymoon!

But sometimes, you won’t have the email address of all your guests, and some of them will be taking great pictures too! This is why Olapic also offers you printed reminding cards that you can give to your guest the day of the wedding. We have chosen Moo as our provider for reminder-cards, due to their stylish design and their great quality.

Moo minicards

The great thing about these reminder cards is that you get to personalize them with the details of your Olapic page and have them delivered to your home.  This will save you time and money. The lovely cards come with instructions for loading pictures to your public gallery.  You and the future Mr. or Mrs. will collect pictures of cherished memories and moments.

We would like to give you a few ideas on how to maximize these reminder cards from Olapic.  You can be as creative as you wish with distributing these reminder cards, but here are a few suggestions.

The adorable flower girl in the wedding will make the perfect candidate to hand out the reminder cards.  She can take her innocent smile and her basket of goodies around to all the guests.  When the guests realize that they have the opportunity to be a part of the picture sharing for groups, they will be delighted to take wonderful pictures of your wedding.

Those lovely place card holders that normally hold name cards can hold a reminder card with unique a design for each of your guests with their name and a personal message just for them.  How special they will feel, and the reminder card can double as a wedding favor.  The guests can take them home and place them on the refrigerator so that they will not forget about the photo sharing.

Another suggestion for the reminder cards is to place them inside of the wedding day reminder notices.  Normally the guests are contacted by phone or mail to remind them of the ceremony.  Sending the reminder cards along with the wedding day reminder notices allow your guest to plan the type of pictures that they want to take at the wedding.  There will be so many fond memories for you two to share with your friends and family.

If you have not experience the unmatched elegance of their reminder cards, you are missing a great thing.  A wedding is a sensational event that is shared with those closest to the bride and groom.  The reminder cards are everything you could have imagined plus more.  Do not miss out on the Olapic experience!

Olapic joins Facebook’s Graph

Olapic just joined Facebook’s Graph by making each public gallery a social object.

Huh? Let us explain.

Your guests can now leave a comment on your public pictures if they have a Facebook account. They can also “Like” your picture and share that with their friends. It’s an easy and effective way to enhance your communication with your guests. It is also an easy way to guet other guests to know you want to collect their pictures!

But of course we have also thought about those of you that would rather disable this functionality for privacy reasons. That is why we added a privacy setting in your profile page so that you can disable that functionality.

Let us know what you think about this new functionality!

The Top 10 Reasons to Hire a Professional Photographer

We always tell you that the best way to use Olapic as a complement to your professional photographer. Your friends are going to take great pictures, and you want them all, but this is your big day, and there are many good reasons to hire a pro.

Professional photographer Scott McNamara (Portland, OR) recently compiled some of them (read his entire post for more details):

#10. We know weddings. We see so many weddings every year that we know what to expect.
#9. A guest is a guest! Let your friend or family member enjoy your wedding and not have to be a nervous mess.
#8. It’s all in the bag, baby! Photography is a very expensive contact sport. Us professionals have amassed a significant investment in top of the line cameras, storage, lenses, lighting, you name it.
#7. We know our gear. As a professional, I am always shooting!  My cameras are an extension of me and I can grab it, fire it up, make a change and get the shot in seconds. Most people that do not live photography will not have the same results and will miss “the” shot.
#6. It’s our business. While the devil may be in the details, we know the important stuff to cover with you. I always have a printed out time line that I bring to the wedding and will engage your vendors so we are all on the same page.
#5. The best computers. Most people think photographers only care about cameras. What good are the best cameras and lenses if my computer dies and I lose all your wedding images?  Most people never think about this. Neither will your Uncle Bob.
#4. We have a network. Another element most people do not consider is the reach of the photographer. I have contracted with you to be there on your wedding. But what happens if I am in a car accident on the way? What if I am hospitalized? Most professionals have a diverse network of other professionals that are friends that will always ensure you are covered.
#3. Standards. Okay, so your high school friend is going to shoot your wedding. He shoots all day and gives you a DVD of your images…but they are in a RAW Nikon format and you cannot do anything with them…or maybe they are exported JPEGs at a small resolution and look horrible when printed.
#2. We like to edit. It’s a lot more than 8 hours! I typically spend a week after the wedding on edits and organizational tasks.
#1. It’s your best day. As a professional, nothing bothers me more than hearing from people that say “our wedding images were horrible…we thought we’d save some money.” Basically, those memories are just that…

Scott also offers some tips to help you afford hiring a pro:

1- Wait. Save your money and do the wedding thing right.

2- Hire a wedding planner. It may look like a luxury, but most of them will end up saving you money!

3- Remember about retainers. Since don’t have to pay all the money upfront, the payments become more affordable.

Our official press release

We launched a while ago, but we hadn’t published our press release yet…here it is!

New NYC-Based Website Olapic Allows Brides and Grooms Create Online Wedding Album from Guests’ Candid Photos

The new and totally unique website created by Columbia Business School students allows brides and grooms to collect all the candid digital photos taken at their wedding into one beautiful online album to share with friends and family. Olapic has reach over 200 weddings in more than 20 countries just with word of mouth.

New York City, February 16, 2010 — A new and totally unique website allows brides and grooms to collect all the candid digital photos taken at their wedding into one beautiful online album to share with friends and family.

Olapic was just launched by three Columbia Business School students. With no advertising or marketing budget, Olapic already has more than 200 weddings in at least 20 countries. Olapic is a photo sharing site like no other–it is the online solution to sharing high quality wedding photos. Guests simply upload the digital photos taken at any of the special bridal events, rehearsal dinner and the wedding itself, and then the couple can create a professional quality album that will be ready and delivered far sooner than the photos from the wedding photographer.

Even more, Olapic has strict privacy controls, so newlyweds can decide who can view the photos of their special day. What makes this site so popular and innovative is that it acts as one central “clearinghouse”–but attractive, organized and timely–of all of the guests’ candid photos that can be uploaded literally hours after the event. Instead of visiting dozens of Facebook pages or other online albums to see all of the pictures, guests can visit the couple’s Olapic page, upload their photos, and then view the finished album when everyone is done. Couples can transfer the photos to other platforms like Facebook and Picasa with just one click. It couldn’t be easier for the bride and groom to get started: open an Olapic account, create a contact list (optional but recommended), and after the wedding Olapic can send three non-spam emails to the guests asking them to upload their candid photos.

Olapic is also different in that it allows bulk downloads of high-resolution images as well as printing services to generate albums and prints. Fees are very reasonable as well: Olapic is free for up to 100 photos, after that it is $55 for the six-month online service package, $95 for a year of online service and cards, or the album account for $215.

Some client testimonials:
“Olapic was a very original wedding present our friends made us because it turned out to be excellent to collect all our pictures… I was not expecting that many!” said Jen and Jeff Smith of New York City.

“Olapic turned out to be great! We collected more than 500 pictures and we saw that our friends had a lot of fun! In the end we ordered thank you cards to send to our guests for making the happiest day of our lives so great” Sue and Miquel, Barcelona, Spain

Olapic: the intelligent alternative to disposable cameras

One solution couples have been opting for is the use of disposable cameras.

Disposable cameras are single use low quality cameras that are relatively cheap to buy -compared to a regular digital camera. Camera producers offer several wedding packages such as these. The couple will then place these cameras on each table and guests will take pictures during the lunch/dinner and (hopefully) throughout the celebration. By the end of the celebration, the couple will try to recover them -guests have to give them back. Finally, the couple must go through the hassle of developing these cameras.

The reality is actually worse because:

  1. you only get pictures from the lunch/dinner onwards -you miss all the pictures previous to the wedding and those of the ceremony. The reality is that 99% of the pictures will portrait people eating.
  2. not all the disposable cameras will be recovered (5 or 6) will be missed
  3. there is a limited amount of pictures you can recover: 27 pictures per camera x 20 cameras = 540 pictures.

The total cost for the couple will be between $100 and $125 for 400 medium/low quality pictures and all the hassle that comes with developing the cameras.

Olapic provides a high-quality and unlimited pictures alternative with easy-to-publish and easy-to-print services that will allow you to share and remember your pictures forever!

How to collect as many wedding pictures as possible

Our main objective at Olapic is to help you, the couple, gather as many pictures as possible. Then we allow you to do whatever you want with them.

Here you will find our tips to ensure that you have a successful picture gathering:

  1. More cameras = More pictures: remind your guests by email to bring digital cameras to the wedding. Pre warn them that you will are very interested in collecting their pictures of the event. Ask them to take as many pictures as possible!
  2. In site reminder cards/stickers: it is very plausible that you don’t have all your guests email addresses. We therefore suggest you give away reminder cards or stickers that ask for their collaboration after the wedding. When your guests get back home, the sticker and/or the card will remind them to upload the pictures!
  3. Online reminders: use email friendly reminders and social marketing to share with your guests what pictures are available online and to ask for their collaboration in gathering as many pictures as possible.

At Olapic we provide an excellent communication tool that allows you to easily import your contact addresses from your favorite email account or from an excel file. We provide an autonomous email tool that you can schedule to send upload reminders -even if you are not around during your honey moon! Our tool allows the couple to keep track of who uploaded what pictures and which ones are considered to be their favorites.

Additionally, with our one-time fee you will receive free 100 reminder cards that you can distribute. Our experience shows that 100 cards is enough for an average wedding, but you can order additional cards if you have a huge wedding.
